Larkana Housing Scheme
During 1995, the Government decided to construct a residential colony at Larkana Sindh. The scheme was to make 481 houses, and its financial implication was of Rs. 85 (m) to be met from two sources i.e. PBM and the Provincial Government. PBM contributed an amount of Rs. 25 (m) and the first phase of construction of 100 houses was started. It was, however abandoned later due to the non-contribution of funds by the Provincial Government. In April 2001, the Government decided to revive the project with a view to retrieve the lost money and to complete a much needed scheme. A grant of Rs. 5 (m) was given by PBM and 100 houses have since been completed with total cost of Rs. 32 (m). The houses were then allotted through a transparent balloting ceremony. Out of the 100 selected needy persons, 10 houses have been allotted free of cost to the very poor widows and orphans. The other 90 houses have been allotted to poor individuals at a very low rate of Rs. 50,000/- only, recoverable @ Rs. 750/- p.m in 60 instalments. These houses have been handed over to the allottees through a formal ceremony held in Larkana on 17th October 2003.
